Overview of Metablism

Learning Objectives: After attending this topic, the learner should be able to:

  • define the overall purpose of metabolism
  • explain why biochemical reactions are linked together into pathways
  • characterize the sources and storage forms of metabolic energy in humans
  • describe the effects of blood glucose levels and circulating hormones on metabolism in the liver, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, heart and brain
