Topic 1: Medical Information Resources

Learning Objectives : After attending this session, the learner should be able to:

  • locate a journal (print or online), book or audiovisual via the Lane Library E-Journal List, the Lane Library Catalog or the Stanford University Catalog.
  • perform a basic search using the Clinical Core meta-search
  • Describe the contents and advantages of UpToDate , MD Consult and SKOLAR.
  • perform a basic topic search in PubMed. Limit results by language, age group, publication type (e.g., review), and date. Download and/or print.
  • perform a basic topic search in SciSearch (includes BIOSIS, Engineering Index, Science Citation Index, etc.)
  • take advantage of some advanced search features of selected web search engines.
